Gospel Singer Daudi Mugema Passes Away in Gulu

The Ugandan music industry is mourning the loss of veteran gospel artist Daudi Mugema, who was confirmed dead today, June 24, 2025, after being found in a hotel room in Gulu.

Mugema had been battling cancer for several years—a struggle he openly shared in interviews. He traced the onset of his health issues to complications that began after his arrest and detention at Kireka Police Station, where he developed severe foot problems. Subsequent medical examinations at the Uganda Cancer Institute confirmed a cancer diagnosis.

His journey through illness was a difficult one. He underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, often seen wearing a cape to cover the effects of treatment-induced hair loss. Amidst his battle, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago stepped in to support him, facilitating his travel to Turkey for specialized care.

Upon returning to Uganda, Mugema appeared optimistic, telling supporters he was on the road to recovery. Sadly, his health deteriorated once again. In recent weeks, he was reportedly in Gulu seeking financial assistance from Gen. Salim Saleh through Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) to continue his treatment.

Today, that battle came to an end.

News of his death has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans, fellow musicians, and public figures sharing heartfelt tributes to honor his life and legacy.

Rest in power, Daudi Mugema. Your voice and spirit will live on.
