Kampala, Uganda — Diamond Trust Bank Uganda (DTB) has been recognized by Mastercard for achieving the highest card usage at point-of-sale (POS) transaction volumes in Uganda’s banking industry. The award was presented by Mr. Ali Shehryar, Mastercard’s Senior Vice President, and East Africa Country Manager, in a ceremony celebrating DTB’s leadership in promoting secure and convenient digital payments.

According to Mastercard International, DTB strongly contributed to the 39% growth in POS card usage during the first half of 2025 in Uganda, with transactions rising from under 7 million to over 9 million. This remarkable performance underscores DTB’s commitment to driving financial inclusion and digital transformation across Uganda.

Mr. Godfrey Sebaana, Managing Director of DTB Uganda, attributed the growth to the bank’s strategic focus on promoting digital channels and driving financial inclusion.

“We are proud to be recognized for our efforts in advancing secure and seamless payment solutions,” said Mr. Sebaana. “DTB remains committed to offering an unparalleled card user experience—combining safety, convenience, and innovation.”

Mr. Ali Shehryar, Mastercard Senior Vice President and East Africa Country Manager, lauded DTB’s performance and commitment to innovative digital payment solutions.

“DTB Uganda has truly blown the competition out of the water. Their relentless drive to expand card usage and deliver superior merchant services has led to this remarkable milestone. We are proud to partner with DTB and remain committed to growing our business together—empowering Ugandans with secure, innovative, and inclusive payment solutions.”
