MASAJJA, Wakiso District (UGNEWSLINE) – The discovery of a woman’s body concealed inside a travel bag at her rented home in Masajja, Wakiso District, has triggered a murder investigation, with police searching for a man believed to have been in a relationship with her.
The body of a 34-year-old woman was discovered stuffed inside a large travel bag at her rented house in Masajja Kibira B, Wakiso District, after neighbours became suspicious when a man reportedly started removing household and business property from her shop.
The deceased, identified as Lillian Katusiime, had allegedly been murdered before her body was folded, tied and concealed inside the bag, which was reportedly packed with clothes in what investigators suspect was an attempt to make it appear like ordinary luggage.
According to police, the suspected murder occurred at an unknown time between November 1 and 2, 2026, at the woman’s residence in Masajja Division.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Katusiime had recently returned from Saudi Arabia and settled in Masajja, where she rented a double-roomed house and established a small retail business dealing in drinks, mobile money services, popcorn and other merchandise.
Police say the circumstances surrounding her disappearance began attracting attention on November 2 when a neighbour, who operates a business near her shop, reportedly noticed a man believed to be her boyfriend removing several items, including a refrigerator, drinks and other merchandise.
The neighbour reportedly became suspicious because Katusiime had not been seen for some time. When questioned about her whereabouts, the man, identified as Eddy Mulika, a boda boda rider who allegedly used to transport the deceased, claimed that she was sick and had been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
However, suspicion deepened when he was reportedly asked to open the house but instead fled the scene.
It was upon gaining access to the premises that those present made the disturbing discovery: Katusiime’s body was inside a large travelling bag, folded and tied, with clothes placed alongside it.
The discovery turned what had initially appeared to be a missing-person concern into a suspected murder case, prompting police at Katwe to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police have since arrested Fred Ssewaanga, a boda boda rider suspected of having assisted in transporting some of the deceased’s property.
He is being held to assist investigators as they seek to establish what happened and whether other people were involved.
Mulika is currently being sought by police in connection with the investigation. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing, the exact circumstances of the woman’s death and the possible involvement of other individuals.
In a statement, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal condemned the killing and appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could help investigators trace the suspect and bring those responsible to justice.
Innvestigators are working to piece together the final hours of Katusiime’s life and establish how a woman who had reportedly returned from Saudi Arabia to build a business in Masajja ended up dead, her body concealed inside a travel bag in her own home.
