KAMPALA- The incumbent Member of Parliament for Ayivu East Division in Arua City, West Nile, Geoffrey Feta, is seeking reelection to implement a flagship Shs 240 billion electrification project, which he successfully lobbied for from the government. The project is expected to drive industrialization and create jobs across the West Nile region.
Speaking to this website on the afternoon of June 23, 2025, shortly after his nomination at the NRM Electoral Commission offices, Feta said he had submitted a formal petition to the President during his recent visit to West Nile, requesting funding support for the ambitious energy initiative.
According to Feta, the President approved the request, and the project is now ready for the implementation phase. The Shs 240 billion will be allocated as follows: Shs 130 billion for the procurement of medium voltage power transmission infrastructure, Shs 70 billion for low voltage distribution systems, and Shs 40 billion for transformers.
The transformers, rated at 100kV, 50kV, and 25kV, will serve different categories of power consumers, including factories, small-scale fabrication businesses, and households. Feta emphasized that the project will stimulate the long-awaited economic growth and development in a region that was only connected to the national power grid in August 2024.
He expressed concern that despite the government supplying 160MW of electricity to the region, only 11MW are currently being consumed. He called this unacceptable and stressed the urgent need for establishing more factories and power-intensive projects to fully utilize the available electricity.
Feta also highlighted gaps in the health sector, noting that none of the three Health Centre IVs in the constituency are connected to electricity. He pledged to prioritize their electrification if re-elected. Additionally, he committed to overseeing the effective use of new road equipment provided by the government to improve the local road network.
