Kampala,Uganda– Parents have been urged to instill discipline in their children at home if they are to help them overcome the challenges of modern society.
This call was made by Maj. Bilal Katamba, Deputy Director of Defence Public Information (DDDPIO) in the Ministry of Defence and the UPDF, during the 14th graduation ceremony of Bilal Islamic Secondary School in Bwaise.
The ceremony saw over 102 students graduating with certificates in Thanawi (Islamic studies), a qualification that enables them to become Sheikhs and Sheikhats.
Maj. Katamba emphasized that parents have a cardinal role in guiding their children on moral issues such as avoiding negative peer groups and focusing their energy on studying to ensure a bright future.
Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, and the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Amb. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, who was the chief guest, advised the graduates to go into mosques and preach positive messages of unity, hard work, and encouragement to fellow citizens.
The Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, who is aspiring to become the next Member of Parliament for Kampala Central Division, challenged Muslim girls to respect others and adhere to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.
She pledged to engage her ministry’s engineers to urgently address the flooding problem caused by the Bwaise water channel, which affects the township’s population during rainy seasons.
Bilal schools are located in a swampy area that floods whenever it rains, creating a disadvantage for both students and the surrounding business community.
She congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold the principles of Islam by spreading messages of hope and empowerment.
The Principal of Bilal Islamic Schools, Sheikh Muhammad Kamoga, thanked the minister for her support during the difficult period when the boys’ dormitory was destroyed by fire, resulting in the loss of property worth millions of shillings.
He also expressed appreciation to all those who responded to the incident with support—donating items such as mattresses, food, and cement—which enabled them to construct a new high-rise building.
