KAMPALA – The Muslim World League (MWL) Uganda country office has officially launched a UGX 300 million nationwide meat and food basket distribution campaign as part of its annual Idd Adhuha humanitarian support initiative.
The project was inaugurated earlier this week by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Rukia Isanga Nakadama, who expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued humanitarian assistance to Uganda.
During the launch, MWL Uganda Country Director, Mohamed Gabriel Amumalan, announced that the distribution campaign will cover key districts including Kampala, Luwero, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Arua, Adjumani, Iganga, Jinja, and Masaka.
On Wednesday, over 1,500 beneficiaries received meat packages at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala. The majority of recipients were women and elderly men from low-income communities such as Katwe, Katanga, Kamwokya, Kifumbira, and the surrounding areas of Makerere Kikoni and Nankulabye.
Speaking on behalf of the MWL country office, Administrative Secretary for Finance Adam Ssaali said the initiative—conducted under the flagship MWL ‘Sacrifice Project’ and supervised by police for security—aims to support vulnerable Muslims across all nationalities residing in Uganda.
Ssaali commended the Ugandan government for fostering a peaceful and inclusive environment for religious practice and community support efforts.
“This campaign is a gesture of solidarity and compassion, particularly during this sacred period of Idd Adhuha, and we are proud to extend our support to those in need,” he said.
