The National Resistance Movement (NRM), the ruling party, has announced a membership increase to 20.7 million, up from 18 million last year, as it prepares its roster for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The party has reported a steady growth in membership since it began updating its register in 2024.
During a media briefing at the party headquarters in Nakasero on March 27, 2025, Secretary General Richard Todwong elaborated that the membership will undergo validation to confirm that only individuals aged 18 and older remain on the official list in preparation for 2026.
The current registered members include those aged 16 and above who joined during the enrollment phase.
He emphasized that the party implemented a thorough verification process to ensure the accuracy of the membership data.
