KAMPALA– Electoral Commission (EC) has reminded members of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) namely persons with disabilities, the youth, and older persons to seize the opportunity of an extended period to verify their information on the voters register.
The display exercise, which resumed on May 9th, will run until May 15th, 2025, concluding alongside the national display of the master register.
According to EC Spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the extension is vital to achieving a transparent and accurate electoral process.
The EC is urging all eligible members of these groups to visit their polling stations and village locations to check the accuracy of their records and flag any discrepancies or ineligible entries.
“We call upon the public, and we call upon especially persons with disability, the youth, and the older persons to take advantage of this period, to ensure that you go to your villages and check the particulars on your voters register,” Mucunguzi said.
“Make sure that only the right people are on the voters register and that those who should not be there are reported for removal,” he added.
Mucunguzi also assured the public of the EC’s readiness, noting that their teams are fully deployed and working every day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends and public holidays.
“Let us not wait for the last minute. Let us work together to ensure that we have a clean, credible national voters register and registers for special interest groups,” he added.
The Commission underscored that this verification phase is crucial in building confidence in the electoral process and in laying the groundwork for free and fair elections.
