KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – MTN MoMo has partnered with C-Care (IHK Hospital) to make paying for healthcare services more convenient for its customers. C-Care, a leading health services provider is rolling out an integrated digital payment solution that allows patients, caregivers and families to settle medical bills directly through their mobile money wallets at C-Care facilities across Uganda.

The partnership brings digital payments closer to patients at a time when convenience, reliability and ease of payment are important parts of healthcare experience. Through the integration, customers visiting C-Care facilities can use MTN MoMo to pay for medical services in a safe, convenient and seamless way.

Commenting on the partnership, Jemima Kariuki- Njuguna, MoMo Chief Product Officer said the integration reflects the company’s commitment to developing practical digital financial solutions that address customers’ everyday needs.

“Digital financial services deliver their greatest value when they solve real problems in people’s everyday lives. Healthcare is an essential service, and paying for it should be as convenient and straightforward as possible. Through our partnership with C-Care, we are making it easier for patients and their families to settle medical bills using MTN MoMo, with a simple authorisation process, immediate payment confirmation and no MoMo transaction charges,” Kariuki said.

She added that the partnership reflects MTN MoMo’s broader ambition to expand the use of digital payments beyond traditional mobile money transfers and make the service increasingly relevant across essential sectors.

“We are deliberately expanding the role of mobile money in the everyday lives of Ugandans. Our ambition is to make MoMo a practical payment solution across the services people depend on, from healthcare and education to transport and retail. Partnerships such as this demonstrate how product innovation and collaboration can make digital payments more accessible, useful and convenient for customers,” she said.

The integration also offers greater flexibility for families managing healthcare expenses. A family member, caregiver or another individual can pay a patient’s bill using their own MTN MoMo account, subject to the hospital’s payment process. This provides an additional option for households coordinating medical expenses, including situations where the person making the payment is not physically at the healthcare facility.

“For MTN MoMo, this partnership advances our ambition to build a connected digital payments ecosystem across healthcare, education, transport, retail and other essential services. It shows the value of embedding MoMo where customers already transact and where digital payments can remove real friction.” She said.

For C-Care, the partnership introduces another payment option designed to support the patient experience and simplify the process of settling medical bills.

Welcoming the integration, Dr. Miriam Mutero, General Manager, C-CARE IHK said the partnership reflects C-Care’s commitment to continuously improving the patient experience by making healthcare payments more convenient and accessible.

“At C-Care, we recognise that the patient experience extends beyond the care we provide to include every interaction, including the process of settling medical bills. Integrating MTN MoMo into our payment system gives our patients and their families a convenient, secure and reliable alternative for making payments. We welcome this partnership as an important step towards enhancing service delivery and embracing digital solutions that respond to the evolving needs of our patients,” Dr. Miriam said.

The payment process is straightforward. Customers should inform the cashier at a participating C-Care facility that they wish to pay using MTN MoMo and provide their MTN mobile number. Once the payment prompt is initiated, the customer reviews and authorises the transaction using their personal MoMo PIN.

Following a successful transaction, the customer receives an MTN MoMo confirmation SMS, while C-Care receives payment confirmation through its system. A receipt can then be obtained through the hospital system.

Today, 47% of patient payments at IHK remain cash-based—a significant opportunity to shift customers toward a faster, more convenient digital experience while improving payment visibility, reconciliation and account management for the hospital.

Through this integration, patients and caregivers can pay eligible medical bills directly from an MTN MoMo wallet. At the cashier, the customer provides an MTN mobile number, reviews the payment prompt and authorizes it with a personal MoMo PIN. Both the customer and the hospital receive confirmation, and the hospital can issue a receipt through its system.

“For C-Care, the partnership introduces another payment option designed to support the patient experience and simplify the process of settling medical bills.”

Customers are advised never to share their MoMo PIN with anyone and to approve only payment prompts they recognise. If a customer’s account is debited but the hospital has not confirmed receipt of payment, they should retain the transaction SMS and share the transaction ID with the cashier for verification. For further assistance, customers can contact MTN Customer Care by calling 100 or speak to a C-Care customer service representative.

The partnership reinforces MTN MoMo’s commitment to expanding digital payment acceptance through collaborations with businesses and institutions. By embedding digital payments into existing customer journeys, MTN MoMo aims to make transactions simpler while giving individuals and families greater choice in how they pay for everyday services.

For patients and caregivers at participating C-Care facilities, the integration offers a practical benefit: the ability to settle healthcare bills conveniently and securely through MTN MoMo, without incurring MoMo transaction charges.

This achievement would not have been possible without strong technology partners. We thank NxtPe for enabling the integration and helping connect MTN MoMo securely to C-Care IHK’s systems.

MTN MoMo remains committed to innovating digital solutions aimed at eliminating friction from everyday life.
