A team from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, led by Acting Deputy Director Traffic ACP Musinga Norman and Liaison Officer SP Kananura Michael, in partnership with the Albertine Region Police under RPC SSP Bindeba Dickens, has successfully concluded a two-day road safety campaign.
The campaign, held in Hoima, Masindi, and Kiryandongo, aimed to engage both police officers and community members on key road safety issues. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to reduce road traffic accidents and promote safer road use across Uganda.
According to last year’s crime report, the Albertine Region recorded 378 road crash fatalities, making it the second most affected region in the country after Rwizi. This alarming figure highlights the urgent need for sustained safety interventions.
The campaign focused on open dialogue with local stakeholders to raise awareness, address critical road safety challenges, and identify practical solutions. The main objective is to ensure that every stakeholder understands their role in making roads safer for everyone.
Participants included Members of Parliament, RDCs, local council leaders, business representatives, bus and taxi operators, lorry drivers, market vendors, school administrators, civil society organizations, and officers from the UPDF and Uganda Prisons.
