KAMPALA– MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, convened a High-Level Government Round Table today, at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, reinforcing its role as a strategic partner in Uganda’s digital transformation journey.

The one-day engagement brought together senior government officials, policymakers, ICT leaders, and the MTN Uganda executive team to explore practical strategies for accelerating the implementation of the National Digital Transformation Roadmap (2023/2024 – 2027/2028).

The session aimed to develop a joint workplan with government stakeholders, including minimum viable projects (MVPs) and actionable frameworks to advance digital service delivery across the country.

Dr. Aminah Zawedde (PhD), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, emphasized the transformative ambition behind the roadmap: “The purpose of this roadmap is to guide the digital transformation efforts of Uganda, enabling it to capitalize on emerging technologies, enhance economic competitiveness, and improve the lives of our citizens,” said Zawedde.

According to Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, the roadmap builds on the commitments under the Digital Uganda Vision:

“The Digital Transformation Roadmap focuses on what we must do as a country to achieve operational momentum and translate policy into action,” he emphasized,  adding that, The current National Development Plan is heavily focused on increasing investment in ICT as one of the productive sectors able to improve livelihoods, generate employment and produce goods for export substitution as well as import substitution.

Uganda’s Digital Transformation roadmap is aligned to Uganda’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which centers on leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

This initiative reinforces MTN Uganda’s commitment to inclusive digital development and its role in driving Uganda’s digital transformation through public-private collaborations

MTN Uganda’s CEO, Sylvia Mulinge emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving inclusive digital development.

“We believe digital transformation must be inclusive, practical, and locally relevant. Through this Round Table, we are deepening our partnership with government to co-create sustainable solutions that improve lives and enable Uganda’s digital vision,” Mulinge said.

Positioning MTN Uganda as the preferred technology partner for government institutions, the interactive forum provided a platform to showcase the company’s innovative digital solutions aimed at enhancing service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

MTN showcased its digital capabilities including; Cloud, IoT, Managed Networks, and e-Government solutions, positioning itself as the preferred technology partner for government service delivery.

MTN Uganda presented its comprehensive portfolio of technology capabilities, including: Cloud Services, Internet of Things (IoT), Managed Networks, Unified Communications as well as e-Government Solutions

“We are showcasing solutions that can immediately add value to public service delivery—from secure cloud infrastructure to smart government platforms and managed connectivity. Our goal is to walk this journey hand in hand with government, building what matters most to citizens,” said Ibrahim Senyonga, General Manager, MTN Enterprise Business Unit.

Uganda’s ICT sector continues to demonstrate strong economic impact, recording an average growth rate of 14.8% and contributing 9% to the national GDP, according to the National Digital Transformation Roadmap. Additionally, research from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) highlights that a 10% increase in broadband penetration can lead to 1.4% GDP growth, emphasizing the critical role of connectivity in national development.

By facilitating platforms such as this Round Table, MTN Uganda reaffirms its long-term commitment to enabling Uganda’s digital future through strategic collaboration, technological innovation, and inclusive progress.
