KAMPALA, Uganda– A total of 200 young Muslim youths benefitted from a three-day intensive Quran memorization competition, which not only deepened their knowledge of the Holy Book but also helped shape their morals and discipline.
The event reached its climax during the Kawempe North Inter-Village Mosque Quran Competitions, held at Mbogo Mosque Grounds in Kawempe on Sunday, 14th September 2025. The event was fully sponsored by Hajjati Farida Nambi.
All participants walked away with various prizes, including television sets, cash rewards, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Holy Land of Mecca.
The chief guest, Sheikh Ssetaba Hamis, Kampala District Deputy Super Supreme Kadhi, congratulated the winners and praised the initiative as a unique platform for empowering youth with Quranic knowledge. He emphasized that such competitions instill an appreciation for the Quran and its teachings, promoting moral integrity and religious discipline among the youth.
Sheikh Ssetaba commended Hajjati Farida Nambi, the NRM Parliamentary Flag Bearer Aspirant for Kawempe North, for her generosity and initiative. He noted that her efforts should serve as a challenge to other well-resourced Muslim tycoons who have yet to support similar faith-based youth programs.
He further urged the residents of Kawempe North to consider rewarding Hon. Nambi for her heart-touching contribution, describing the event as a valuable service to the Muslim Ummah. He also noted that the Super Supreme Mufti appreciated her efforts.
In her brief remarks, Hajjati Nambi called upon all political leaders in the division—including her opponent Hon. Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola (the incumbent MP), former MP Hon. Latif Ssebagala, and current area Mayor Dr. Emmanuel Serunjogi—to put aside their political differences and unite in developing the Mbogo Burial Site, the original location where Islam began in Uganda.
“I’m happy to invite and ready to work with all political leaders, both within and beyond this division, to jointly put aside our political hats and plan for the development of the Mbogo Burial Site. This is a Muslim historical landmark that can be transformed into a major tourist attraction,” she stated.
She also congratulated Abubaker Mutebi Ali from Masjid Faatwaimah, Kisowera Zone, for emerging as the overall winner of this highly competitive event. He was awarded an all-expenses-paid Umrah trip, courtesy of Mihraab Travels Ltd.
