Disagreement Emerges Among Journalists Over President Museveni Meeting Video

The video continues to circulate, sparking discussions not just about the meeting itself, but also about broader themes of access, perception, and unity within Uganda’s ever-evolving media landscape

KAMPALA, Nakasero- A debate has emerged within Uganda’s journalism community following the circulation of a video showing President Yoweri Museveni sharing kind words with a group of selected journalists.”

The video, which has been widely shared across various media WhatsApp platforms, captures a moment of engagement where the President is seen warmly interacting with attendees. The atmosphere at the venue (Nakasero state Lodge) was one of excitement and appreciation, with many participants responding with visible enthusiasm to the President’s remarks.

While the video was initially intended to highlight the cordial relationship between the head of state and members of the media, it has unexpectedly stirred mixed reactions within the broader journalism fraternity. Some journalists who were not part of the meeting have questioned the tone and context of the gathering, leading to exchanges in professional forums and online groups.

Journalists who were present at the meeting have expressed concern over how the video is being interpreted and circulated, suggesting that some colleagues may be misrepresenting the spirit of the occasion.

“This was a constructive and respectful engagement between the President and members of the press. It’s unfortunate that it’s being taken out of context,” one attendee noted.

Others, however, have called for broader inclusivity and transparency in such engagements, saying that open dialogue across the media spectrum helps promote unity and professionalism.

In several online media groups, discussions have become intense, with differing opinions on what the video represents. Some journalists have emphasized the need to maintain professional objectivity, regardless of access or participation in high-level meetings.

The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has yet to make a formal comment on the matter, though media leaders are encouraging calm and constructive conversation within the fraternity.

Despite the online exchanges, many agree that continued dialogue between the media and leadership is vital in strengthening press freedom, ethical reporting, and national development.
