Kampala, Uganda– The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, has commended the leadership of Namilyango College for offering an inclusive and focused education package to its student community.

He noted that this has shaped the students into responsible citizens, with thousands currently occupying key decision-making roles across various sectors.

Mao made the remarks on while officiating at the 5th Annual Namilyango College Old Boys Association (NACOBA) Awards Dinner, held at the Grand Imperial Hotel under the theme “ICT-Competence Based Education in Namilyango College.”

The purpose of the NACOBA Awards which attracted over 300 old boys is to recognize former students and staff, both past and present, living and deceased, who have made significant achievements in society.

Their accomplishments, affiliations, and careers have honored the core values of Namilyango College, including honesty and integrity, innovation, respect for human dignity, Christ-centered holistic formation, and excellence.

Mao, an old boy, paid special tribute to the late former college headmaster Peregrine Kibuuka, who nurtured him. He particularly credited Kibuuka’s articulate English teaching technique, which inspired him to study hard and develop a deep love for the college.

He also urged the government to fully implement the recommendations from the Nuwa Amanya Mushega Education Policy Review Commission, emphasizing their potential to positively influence the future of Uganda’s education system.

The former Chief Justice of Uganda, Justice Bart Katureebe, who delivered the keynote address, applauded the college headmaster, Constantine Ssajabbi Mpuuga, and his team for providing an inclusive and well-rounded education package. He noted that this approach, combined with the promotion of voluntary community service, equips students to become valuable members of future society.

Headmaster Mpuuga expressed gratitude to the NACOBA leadership for their continuous support. He emphasized that the college is taking ICT education seriously. Currently, the school has a student population of 2,051 but only 105 computers, mainly used by Senior One students. Of these, 30 are reserved for research purposes. To supplement this, 80 additional tablets have recently been purchased to promote the college’s ICT agenda.

Mpuuga revealed that a new block under construction will house ICT labs, a library for both books and digital resources, and additional facilities. He also noted the recent installation of ICT projectors and whiteboards donated by the 1996 cohort to enhance the learning experience.

NACOBA President Alex Asiimwe highlighted the significant strides made through investment in high-end income-generating projects, which have positively impacted their development agenda.
