EDUCATION: The former President of Nigeria, H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has challenged African graduates to work hard for the prosperity of their mother continent, Africa, emphasizing that no one from abroad will come to manage their economic growth agenda positively.

Dr. Jonathan made these remarks on 21st August 2025 while addressing students and stakeholders at the 14th graduation ceremony of Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), held at the Speke Convention Centre, Munyonyo.

H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

A total of 900 students graduated with certificates, diplomas, and degrees across various professional academic disciplines.

The theme for the CUU Class of 2025 was “Empowering Futures; Cultivating Leaders for a Global Tomorrow.” The event featured addresses from several distinguished leaders who encouraged the graduates to maintain discipline as they enter the workforce, which presents many challenges.

He reminded his audience that leadership in the modern era demands collaboration across borders, cultures, and disciplines. “Whatever your discipline, your role is to bridge divides and uplift communities for the good of mankind,” he said.

“Graduands, you have been taught to be problem solvers, not problem bearers; to be creators of opportunity and not seekers of entitlement. Therefore, go out into the world and serve your communities with pride, so that you may be remembered as someone who added value to society,” he added.

Ag. Director General of the East African Development Bank (EADB), Mr. Bernard Paul Mono

The Chief Guest, Ag. Director General of the East African Development Bank (EADB), Mr. Bernard Paul Mono, congratulated all stakeholders involved in the higher education journey and wished the graduates success in their future endeavors.

He also urged graduates preparing to enter the workforce to leverage the skills and knowledge acquired at university to lead with vision, innovate, and address the challenges facing their communities — especially in areas related to economic empowerment.

The graduating students expressed their gratitude to the university’s management for equipping them with knowledge. They pledged to use these skills to foster development and contribute positively to their communities.
