Doha, Qatar –The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in the State of Qatar has successfully hosted the second edition of the Uganda–Qatar Business Forum at Rotana City Center, Doha, under the theme “Uganda and Qatar in Partnership for Shared Economic Development.”
The high-level gathering was officiated by Vincent Waiswa Bagiire, Permanent Secretary of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who served as the chief guest.
The forum drew senior government officials, business executives, and investors from both Uganda and Qatar.
In his keynote address, Bagiire reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to advancing economic and commercial diplomacy as a driver of national growth.
He emphasized that Uganda remains open to strategic partnerships that foster sustainable development, noting the country’s vast potential in agro-industrialization, manufacturing, tourism, and infrastructure.
“Uganda’s doors are open to investors who share our vision for sustainable growth,” he said, highlighting the country’s youthful workforce, political stability, and access to regional markets as key incentives for investors.
Uganda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Stephen Chebrot, said the forum underscores the growing strength of Uganda–Qatar relations within the framework of commercial diplomacy, focused on expanding trade, investment, and tourism linkages between the two nations.
The event featured an engaging panel discussion with representatives from the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB), and Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), who presented Uganda’s investment incentives, export potential, and tourism attractions under the “Explore Uganda – The Pearl of Africa” campaign.
Qatari investor and KON Group Chairman, Mohammed Massami, commended the progress in bilateral trade and investment, noting that Uganda’s exports to Qatar have grown from USD 20 million to USD 34 million over the past decade, while Qatar’s exports to Uganda increased from USD 17 million to USD 26 million.
“This growth reflects how our partnership has evolved from ideas to reality, now supported by increased weekly flights between Uganda and Qatar,” Massami said.
He further lauded the ongoing diplomatic engagement, pointing to the forthcoming establishment of a Qatari Embassy in Uganda as a milestone in bilateral cooperation.
The Embassy of Uganda in Doha expressed gratitude to all participants, including UIA, UEPB, UTB, KON Group, and members of the Qatari business community, for their valuable contributions to the forum’s success.
The Uganda–Qatar Business Forum continues to stand as a key platform for strengthening economic diplomacy, promoting trade and investment, and fostering lasting partnerships between the two countries.
