In a swift joint operation, a team of police officers, army personnel, and local vigilantes foiled a potential criminal plot in the early hours of Wednesday (November 5, 2025).
At around 2:00 a.m., the patrol team apprehended Lumu Jovan near Oilcom Petrol Station in Kireka Biira.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, Patrick Onyango, reported that the suspect was found carrying a brand-new, razor-sharp panga, raising suspicions of an impending attack or robbery.
Upon interrogation, Lumu confessed that he and two other accomplices had been transported from Nansana to Kireka Biira by a motorcycle rider identified as Nicholas Mawanda Kasozi.
The trio’s plan was interrupted when the motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ, developed a flat tire. Mawanda reportedly left to fix it, unaware that police patrols were already closing in.
He said the security team quickly tracked down Mawanda and recovered both the motorcycle and the weapon, now being held as exhibits.
Both suspects were detained at Bulenga Police Station, facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Police say further investigations are underway to uncover the identities and motives of the remaining suspects believed to be part of the same group.
