KISORO DISTRICT : National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has officially launched his campaign activities in the Kigezi Sub-region, beginning with a major rally at Saza Grounds in Kisoro District. During the event, he outlined his manifesto and reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating what he described as the “gains made under NRM stewardship.”

Museveni emphasized that the NRM government has “revived Uganda in all aspects,” pointing to achievements in peace, security, development, job creation, and the strengthening of the economy. He reminded voters of the government’s previous interventions in Kisoro, particularly during periods of shortages in essential commodities.

According to him, these actions set the foundation for continued progress toward Uganda’s goal of attaining higher middle-income status.

“We inherited a country that was broken in every sector,” Museveni told supporters. “But over the years, we have rebuilt step by step to ensure Ugandans can live securely and prosper.”

New Road Projects Announced

The NRM candidate also unveiled plans for a new phase of major road works in Kisoro District, aimed at boosting mobility, trade, and access to services. The roads earmarked for tarmacking include; Kabale – Bunyonyi – Mugahinga Road, Kisoro – Muko Road, Katuna – Muko – Kamuhangura Road, Kerere – Kanungu Road

Museveni noted that the NRM government has already constructed several significant roads linking Kisoro and the wider Kigezi Sub-region to national and regional markets. “These roads have transformed the area,” he said. “And we shall do even more to open up opportunities for our people.”

Call for Peace and Stability

In his address, Museveni urged residents of Kisoro to safeguard the peace they currently enjoy, cautioning them against being influenced by instability in neighboring countries. “Peace is the foundation of development,” he said. “Once peace is lost, everything else collapses.”

He took a swipe at opposition presidential candidates, criticizing them for what he described as a lack of constructive plans. “Leadership is not about shouting,” he remarked. “It is about showing the capacity to develop a country.”

Wealth-Creation Message Reinforced

The President again emphasized his long-standing message on household wealth creation, urging families in Kisoro to differentiate between public infrastructural development and personal income growth.

He shared examples of enterprises under the four-acre model, such as poultry, coffee farming, dairy farming, piggery, and fish farming. These, he said, offer viable paths for households still living in subsistence conditions.

“Wealth is created at the household level,” Museveni explained. “Government gives you the environment, but the initiative must begin in your own home.”

Museveni also promised to boost funding for wealth-creation programs under various socioeconomic empowerment schemes, encouraging residents to remain committed to productive activities.
