After five months of vanishing without a trace, the Kitagwenda District Chairperson Ismail Mushemeza has finally been arrested, ending one of the district’s most dramatic political hide-and-seek sagas.

Mushemeza reportedly disappeared after operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), backed by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), attempted to apprehend him during a party primary rally in Kicheche Subcounty in July 2025.
According to witnesses at the rally, the district boss took off in a flash, fleeing the scene to avoid arrest, an escape that left his office abandoned and the district without its LCV chairperson for months.
Authorities allege that Mushemeza had been involved in a bribery scheme, with job seekers in the district reportedly paying between Shs10 million and Shs20 million in exchange for employment opportunities.
His arrest now brings an intense chapter of evasion to a close, setting the stage for a high-profile corruption probe.
He is to be arraigned in court.
