Budondo, Jinja District – December 27, 2025

In a vibrant display of community spirit and political solidarity just days before the New Year, supporters of Jinja North parliamentary aspirant Mr. Peter Nabwana Mwesigwa organized a lively bicycle race in Budondo Sub-county on Boxing Day. The event, held in the heart of Buyala within Jinja City, drew hundreds of residents who cycled through local villages, symbolizing unity, appreciation for their candidate, and a shared vision for improved development.

The race, which featured participants of all ages pedaling along dusty roads lined with cheering onlookers, served multiple purposes: fostering togetherness among constituents, expressing gratitude to Mr. Mwesigwa for his ongoing community engagement, and rallying support ahead of the 2026 general elections. As a special Christmas gesture, the top-performing cyclists received prizes from the aspirant himself, including cash awards and bicycles.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony amid applause and ululations, Mr. Peter Nabwana Mwesigwa emphasized that the event was more than just a sporting activity—it was a call to action for improved livelihoods in the constituency.

“I come into this contest out of pain,” Mr. Mwesigwa told the gathered crowd. “This constituency, though within the city, lacks clean water. Many areas have no access to electricity, and several sub-counties especially Budondo—have markets that operate only on Tuesdays. I come with a promise to improve the lives of our people.”

He highlighted key challenges facing Jinja North, including inadequate access to safe drinking water, unreliable electricity supply in rural areas, and limited market days that hinder economic growth for farmers and traders, particularly in Budondo.

Ashraf, one of the participants and a local youth leader from Ivunamba Parish who finished among the top riders, praised the initiative. “This race brought us together as one family,” he said. “Mr. Mwesigwa has shown that he cares about us, not just with words but through actions like this Christmas gift. We are ready to support him to bring change—better roads, water, and electricity.”

Annet Nabirye, a female cyclist and market vendor from Budondo, added, “Our market here operates only once a week, making it hard to sell our produce. Events like this remind us that unity is strength, and we appreciate Mr. Mwesigwa for listening to our struggles.”

As the sun set on the festive gathering, Mr. Mwesigwa called on residents to rally behind his vision for progress.

“I call upon everyone to support me on this journey,” he urged. “Together, we can transform Jinja North.”

Wrapping up with seasonal goodwill, he extended warm wishes: “I wish my supporters and everyone else a happy New Year filled with blessings and prosperity.”

The bicycle race comes as political activity intensifies in Jinja North ahead of the January 2026 polls, where multiple aspirants are vying for the seat. Supporters say such events strengthen grassroots mobilization and highlight community-driven development priorities.

Local leaders in Budondo Sub-county, known for its agricultural vibrancy and proximity to Jinja City’s urban center, echoed the sentiment that initiatives like these promote harmony while addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps.
