KAMWOKY, Kampala: Muslim communities in Kamwokya Parish, Central Division, have appealed to the Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, for financial support amounting to UGX 50 million to enable them purchase land for the expansion of their community development projects.
The appeal was made through the Kamwokya Muslim Development Association (KMDA), a grassroots economic empowerment organization, which hosted the minister on December 29, 2025, at Kamwokya Muslim Primary School. The meeting aimed at seeking her support as a longtime friend of the community and a fellow Muslim.
Speaking on behalf of the association, KMDA Chairperson Sheikh Saidi Bagash, accompanied by over 50 members, told the minister—who is also aspiring to contest for the Central Division Direct Member of Parliament seat on the NRM ticket—that the association urgently needs funding to acquire land. He said securing land would enable KMDA to implement more income-generating projects aimed at empowering members and reducing household poverty.
The association’s Treasurer, Hajji Matovu Ibrahim, while presenting a detailed activity report, noted that although KMDA has benefited from some government programs such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM), the funding received is still insufficient to fully implement their planned projects.
Among the ongoing projects are liquid soap manufacturing and petroleum jerrycan production. However, these initiatives are constrained by lack of modern machinery for improved production, branding and packaging, as well as limited operational space.
In her response, Minister Minsa Kabanda thanked the members for inviting her and commended them for their commitment to improving their livelihoods. She promised to study the association’s report and pledged to explore ways of providing both technical and logistical support through her Minsa Kabanda Foundation, a private NGO.
The minister also urged the community members to support her and other NRM flag bearers at all levels, including the party’s presidential candidate, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. She said such support would strengthen her ability to use her connections with State House to lobby for high-impact projects that could empower more people within the Kamwokya community.
