A police canine operation has uncovered a suspected burglary trail in Bugiri Municipality, leading officers to a room believed to be linked to a wanted suspect identified only as Teete, as authorities intensify efforts to make an arrest.
The suspect is being pursued in connection with a night burglary in which several household items and personal belongings were stolen from a residence in Kimombasa Cell, Ndifakulya Parish, Western Division, Bugiri Municipality.
The break-in reportedly occurred on the night of 12 July 2026, when unknown intruders gained access to a complainant’s home and made off with a mattress, two pairs of bed sheets, saucepans, a bag containing an unspecified amount of money, a National Identification Card, and other household property.
Following a report to police, officers responded to the scene and deployed the Police Canine Unit in an attempt to track the suspects.
A sniffer dog, T/P254 Monica, picked up a scent and followed the trail for about 100 metres to a nearby salon, which had also reportedly been broken into on the same night.
The tracking operation continued through several corridors and along another route covering approximately 800 metres before leading officers to a scrap yard and eventually to a boys’ quarters.
The dog later stopped and sat at the second door of a room believed to be occupied by Teete.
Although the suspect was not found at the location, police conducted a lawful search and recovered several items suspected to have been stolen.
The complainant identified a bed sheet and a light-blue plastic plate stand as some of the property taken from the residence.
A salon operator also identified several items believed to have been stolen from the salon, including two plastic chairs, a hair dryer, light-blue towels, a green plastic clothes bucket, and carpets.
Police have secured the recovered items as exhibits while investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to trace and apprehend Teete to answer allegations of burglary and theft.
