Uganda’s President Gen (RTD) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has decided to pardon 19 young supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
These individuals were convicted for various crimes, including treachery and illegal possession of ammunition, after being arrested in connection with events of November 2020.
Initially, they denied the charges but later accepted a plea deal last month, leading to sentences of three months and 22 days. Museveni stated, “Using the authority given to me under Article 121(1)(a) of the Constitution of Uganda, 1995, as amended, and following the advice of the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, I grant a pardon to the individuals listed below for the crimes of treachery and unlawful possession of ammunition.”
The pardoned individuals are: Rashid Sseggujja, Robert Rugumayo Christopher, Muhuyadin Kakoza, Simon Kujambu, Olivia Lutaaya, Abdul Matoovu, Ronald Kijjambu, Mesach Kiwanuka, Ibrahim Wandera, Asubat Nagwere, Stephen Musakaru, Paul Muyanguzi, Sharif Matovu, David Mafabi, Livingston Katushabe Kigozi, Swaibu Katabi, Siraji Obalayai Mudebo, Joseph Muganza, and Stanley Lwanga.
