MUBENDE District (UGNEWSLINE) – Police have deployed 50 additional officers to Mubende District following deadly attacks in Kitenga Sub-county, while a suspect has been arrested in Ibanda District in connection with the incidents.
Security has been reinforced in Mubende District following a series of deadly attacks in Kitenga Sub-county that left residents exposed to murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery during the early hours of Uganda’s Independence Day on 9 October.
Police said unidentified assailants raided three villages in the sub-county, prompting security agencies to strengthen their presence in the affected communities to protect residents and prevent further attacks.
In response, 50 officers from the Field Force Unit (FFU), based at its headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, have been deployed to reinforce existing security operations involving the police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, said the additional personnel had been deployed to support security teams already operating on the ground.
“The personnel have been deployed in sub-counties like Kitenga to reinforce police and UPDF deployments already on the ground, protecting the lives and property of our people and preventing further attacks by criminal-minded elements,” Kigozi said.
Suspect arrested in Ibanda
In a related development, police have arrested a suspect identified as Nelson Nuwataho in Ibanda District, within the Rwizi policing region, in connection with the attacks in Kitenga.
According to Kigozi, the suspect was arrested on 12 October following investigations that involved the analysis of intelligence and leads gathered from the affected villages.
Nuwataho was subsequently handed over to a team of officers from the Wamala policing region, led by the regional police commander, before being transferred to Mubende Police for interrogation.
Police have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect’s alleged role in the attacks or whether other suspects have been identified.
Kigozi said further developments would be communicated as investigations progress.
