RUBANDA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) –Police in Rubanda District have arrested an 18-year-old man found in possession of three suspected stolen goats during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified as Akanyijuka Timothy, a resident of Hamuhambo Town Council in Rubanda District, was arrested at around 5:00am on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Nelson Tumushime, the suspect was intercepted while driving the three goats without proof of ownership or a livestock movement permit.
“The suspect is being held for being in possession of suspected stolen livestock, contrary to Section 254 of the Penal Code Act,” Tumushime said in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
Akanyijuka is currently detained at Rubanda Police Station as investigations continue.
Police have appealed to residents who recently lost goats to report to Rubanda Police Station to help identify and recover the animals.
Tumushime also cautioned members of the public against buying livestock without verifying ownership and obtaining the required movement permits from local authorities.
The arrest comes amid police efforts to combat livestock-related theft and discourage the illegal movement and trade of animals.
Police urged livestock buyers to exercise caution and ensure that animals are acquired through lawful transactions to avoid purchasing suspected stolen property.
