NAKASERO, Kampala (UGNEWSLINE) — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with an aggravated robbery in Kampala in which a car dealer was robbed of valuables worth about Shs29 million and injured during an attack involving a group of armed men.
The robbery occurred at about 5:30pm on October 12 near Mackinnon Suites, opposite the Sudanese Embassy in Nakasero, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police.
The victim, Kenneth Mubazzi, 30, was travelling on a motorcycle from Bukoto towards Nakasero when he was ambushed by men travelling on approximately seven motorcycles.
The assailants allegedly robbed him of three mobile phones, a gold chain and a bracelet valued at approximately Shs29 million. He sustained bruises during the attack.

Police officers deployed in the nearby Golf Course area pursued the suspects, leading to the arrest of one man identified as Julius Waiswa, 19.
Police said one of the stolen mobile phones was recovered from Waiswa. Officers also recovered a red motorcycle, registration number UMA 639PC, which investigators believe was abandoned by suspects who fled the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations were under way to track down the remaining suspects and recover the stolen property.
“We are continuing with investigations to apprehend all those involved in the robbery and recover the remaining stolen property,” Owoyesigyire said.
Preliminary police findings indicate that Waiswa had previously been remanded at Luzira Prison in 2024 on aggravated robbery charges before being released in July 2026.
Police have not yet announced further arrests, and the other suspects remain at large as investigations continue.
Owoyesigyire commended the security personnel who responded to the victim’s alarm and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
