KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Police have arrested four suspected members of a notorious criminal gang accused of attacking and robbing residents in parts of Kampala, following an intelligence-led operation in the Kikoni neighbourhood.
The suspects, including a man believed to be the gang’s leader, were arrested during an operation conducted by officers from Wandegeya Police Station in Kikoni Zones A and B, Makerere II Parish, on October 30, 2026.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the operation was carried out between 5:30am and 8:30am following reports of rising criminal activity attributed to a group locally known as “Egali”. She said the gang had allegedly been terrorising residents in Kikoni, Makerere, Kasubi, LDC and Kawaala.
According to police, the suspected criminal network is believed to comprise between 10 and 14 members who reportedly operate around Arua Park and use motorcycles to move between different locations. The suspects allegedly disguise themselves in hooded clothing and camouflage attire to avoid being easily identified.
Police said the group is suspected of targeting unsuspecting members of the public, particularly during early morning hours between 5am and 8am, when victims are reportedly attacked, injured and robbed of bags, mobile phones and other valuables.
The suspects are also alleged to have used pangas and other dangerous weapons during the attacks.
The four arrested suspects have been identified as Andama Sabil, also known as Amin, who is alleged to be the gang leader; Musa Bushera, alias Dog City; Vincent Ndeleyo, also known as Vin 1 City; and Hassan Simon, alias Swai City.
During the operation, police reportedly recovered several exhibits, including suspected opium, camouflage jackets, shoes and other items believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.
The suspects remain in police custody as detectives continue investigating their alleged involvement in the reported robberies and attacks.
Police are also pursuing other individuals believed to be connected to the suspected criminal network.
Kawala urged members of the public to remain vigilant and share information that could help investigators track down other suspects, reiterating that police remained committed to protecting lives and property.
The arrests come amid concerns over violent street robberies in parts of Kampala, with police encouraging residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
