As the Easter season approaches, Flexipay by Stanbic Bank has announced a new promotional campaign offering users the chance to win UGX 500,000 when they receive money from relatives abroad.

From April 7 to June 30, 2025, customers using Flexipay’s international money transfer services will be automatically entered into a weekly draw, with four winners each receiving UGX 500,000.

In partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Flexipay is leveraging popular money transfer platforms like Upesi, Mpesa, and Juba Express to facilitate secure transactions for Ugandan families during the holiday season.

Joseph Ndoboli, Acting Head of Flexipay, highlighted the campaign’s dual purpose: celebrating the festive season and easing the financial burden on those sending money home. Participating countries include the UK, UAE, Sweden, USA, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan, among others.

“We understand the importance of this time of year for many families. Our cashback offer not only supports Ugandans abroad in contributing to their loved ones’ well-being but also promotes financial stability within Uganda. Partnering with IFAD allows us to uplift the lives of women, youth, and farmers,” Ndoboli said.

Remittances to Uganda reached approximately $1.4 billion in 2023, significantly boosting economic growth by increasing household consumption, according to the World Bank.

Sam Mwogeza, Executive Director and Head of Personal and Private banking

Sam Mwogeza, Executive Director and Head of Personal and Private banking revealed that Flexipay facilitated UGX 30 billion in remittances from Ugandans abroad in 2024, with over 11,000 transactions from countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and UAE.

“With the IFAD partnership, we have reduced remittance costs by 3%, benefiting Ugandan families, especially those in rural areas,” said Mwogeza.

In 2024, over 260,000 new users joined Flexipay, driven by the platform’s affordability and flexibility. Recipients of qualifying remittances will automatically receive 10% cashback, making the process seamless and straightforward.

“As we approach Easter, we encourage Ugandans expecting money from abroad to inform their relatives and friends to use Flexipay for this instant offer. For example, receiving UGX 100,000 earns UGX 10,000 cashback, while UGX 1,000,000 earns UGX 100,000 cashback,” Ndoboli explained.

David Berno, IFAD Remittances and Inclusive Digital Finance Officer emphasized the role of remittances in reducing poverty and enhancing food security.

“We are excited to support this campaign because remittances help families meet basic needs and contribute to local economic growth through increased consumption and investment,” Berno said.

Josephine Nakato, Flexipay Head of Customer Experience

Josephine Nakato, Flexipay Head of Customer Experience, assured customers of transaction security, stating, “Flexipay is the most convenient, secure, and affordable mobile money solution with over one million users on smartphones and USSD. It enables individuals and businesses to send, receive, and make payments effortlessly.”

Flexipay services, launched in Uganda in 2019, have rapidly gained popularity for providing secure and efficient money transfer solutions for both local and international transactions. The platform boasts over a million users, supporting personal, merchant, and business transactions via the mobile app, USSD *291#, and the website.
