Under the cover of night, the joint security forces closed in on a quiet neighborhood in Bulamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
The target was a man known only by Alfadudu Imanantireganya who was commonly know by his alias name “Congolese”.
Reports indicate that for months, he had evaded capture, leaving a trail of violent robberies and murders across the country.
In a statement issued by Rusoke Kituuma, the Uganda Police Force (UPF) spokesperson, on May 9, 2025, at around 10:00 pm, police and joint security agencies in Kasangati conducted an operation in Bulamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, that led to the arrest of the suspect.
“He is suspected of involvement in a series of aggravated robberies and murders across the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area, Busoga East, Busoga North, Elgon region, Ssezibwa, and surrounding areas,” he added.
He stressed that during interrogation by the security team, Imanantireganya allegedly disclosed that he and his associates-identified as Mozy, Mapengo, and others-carried out robberies using a SAR rifle.
He further revealed that the weapon was hidden at the residence of Ivulungo Bumali in Girigiri Village, Maina Parish, Mpungwe Subcounty, Mayuge District, after their criminal activities.
“Following this information, a joint team of police and sister security agencies proceeded to Mayuge District, where they recovered the SAR rifle from Ivulungo’s house in Girigiri Village,” he noted.
Kituuma noted that police also recovered two hammers, a knife, and jackets.
He stressed that Ivulungo and his wife were also taken into custody to assist in the ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the recovered rifle was originally stolen during a robbery in Mukono in October 2024.
