KAMPALA,Uganda– Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has been nominated as the sole candidate for the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Her unopposed nomination follows the disqualification of her rival, Akol Odeke Hellen, over allegations that she does not have a permanent residence in Bukedea District, a key requirement for aspirants in the constituency.
According to Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, an investigation by the party revealed that Akol had falsely claimed residency in one of the villages in the district. Once the deception was uncovered, her expression of interest was automatically nullified.
As a result, Speaker Among was officially declared unopposed in the Bukedea Woman MP race. In her remarks following the announcement, she thanked the NRM leadership for conducting thorough due diligence and reaffirmed her commitment to continue serving the people of Bukedea and the country at large.
