Police in Nwoya District have recovered a sub-machine gun (SMG) believed to have been used in recent criminal activities that terrorized residents of the area.

The operation, conducted in Paminyai Subcounty, followed intelligence from informants in Nyamukino and Gotapwoyo villages. Reports indicated that a white Toyota Ipsum, registration number UAP 032E, was transporting 11 goats suspected to have been stolen. The vehicle was intercepted by vigilant community members, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
During the operation, police arrested Dicken Omony, a 28-year-old broker from Pece-Laroo Division in Gulu City. Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to the location of the firearm—an SMG rifle—hidden in bushes near an electric pole in Purongo Subcounty. The weapon was recovered without ammunition.
Investigations are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend additional suspects and accomplices linked to the case.
The Uganda Police Force commended the local community for their critical role in sharing information that led to the recovery of the firearm.
“We thank the residents for their cooperation, which was instrumental in this successful operation,” a police spokesperson stated.
