KAMPALA: The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese Paul Ssemogerere has called upon Ugandans to work together to ensure peaceful and inclusive elections.

Ssemogerere was preaching at the home of Her Excellency the Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo Rose Epel during a Private Prayer attended by Parishioners from Kampala Archdiocese yesterday.

“We call upon God to reign over forces of darkness in our mother country, Uganda that we may have absolute peaceful, free and fair elections,” he said.

He asked the Lord to dispel the spirit of violence, intrigue, malicious propaganda, misguidance and use of evil powers during the forthcoming election.

During the homily, the Archbishop explained that It is possible to have peaceful elections if we all put the love of our country first by not chasing our own goals, but those for the interest of all us a country.

“I call upon everyone to respect each other. We are all different but we can work together for the betterment of our country,” he advised.

He further urged the people to treat others the way they would have wanted to be treated. “As we prepare for the political season, we must all respect one another for this country to go ahead,” he said.

Ssemogerere, who spoke passionately about Alupo’s family for being very religious and always supporting the church as a whole, emphasized that Uganda is a beautiful country and it is everyone’s responsibility to protect it as they preserve the environment.

He asked the heavenly father to continue journeying with the vice president especially in her political career. “Lord may you guide and grant her your wisdom, knowledge and understanding as she executes her duties,” the Archbishop said.

Ssemogerere further asked God to grant Alupo a landslide victory both in the NRM Primaries and in the general elections for the good of the people of Katakwi district and Uganda at large.

The vice president thanked the Archbishop for finding time off his busy schedule to visit her ‘humble’ home and leading a private Mass.

She committed her campaign structure in the hands of the Lord and asked God to bless her campaign managers, coordinators and agents.

“Grant them the true disciples’ tongues as they announce my manifesto. May you O Lord go ahead of them into the ears of all the electorates,” Alupo said in one of the petitions.

She thanked God for all the leaders that this country prides in right from LC1 especially our visionary president His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Mama Janet Museveni.

“We thank you for having guided them through the ending term of service to our nation. Father Lord, leadership comes from You. We pray that in these forthcoming elections, you provide victory to the good leaders especially our visionary president Museveni,” she said.

The vice president also committed our religious leaders into the hands of the Heavenly Father that they may continue to be agents of peace especially in this time when the country is heading for elections.

She appreciated the church’s efforts in nurturing believers spiritually and guiding them to become responsible members of society saying that through various outreach programmes, the church has positively impacted communities by promoting personal and economic development.

Mass was attended by different dignitaries including ministers, members of Parliament, family and staff of the Office of the Vice President among others.
