KABALE, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Police in the Kigezi Region are investigating the suspected murder of a nine-month-old baby in Kabale District, with preliminary findings indicating that the child may have been killed in a suspected ritual sacrifice involving his parents and a traditional healer.
The deceased has been identified as Mugabe John Bosco, the son of Turyatemba Wilber and Kyomukama Agnes, residents of Bunagana Village, Mayengo Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county in Kabale District.
According to police, the incident occurred on October 16, 2026, at around 9:00am in Bunagana Village, although details surrounding the alleged killing are still under investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that the parents allegedly agreed to sacrifice the child in exchange for Shs5 million from a suspected traditional healer. However, the healer reportedly did not pay the money and is said to be on the run.
The incident came to light on October 20, when Twinomugabe Deus, an uncle to Kyomukama, reportedly met her at Bunagana Trading Centre without the baby.
Police said the uncle became suspicious because Kyomukama had previously been moving around with the child strapped to her back.
When questioned about the baby’s whereabouts, she reportedly told him that she had given the child to a woman from Kabale Town to take care of him.
The circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance prompted further inquiries, leading to the recovery of his body.
The body was retrieved from the scene and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police have not yet provided further details about the suspects’ whereabouts or confirmed whether arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and the alleged involvement of the parents and other individuals.
