RWAMPARA District (UGNEWSLINE) – A Senior Clinical Officer attached to Kikoni Health Centre IV in Rwampara District has been charged with obtaining money by false pretence after allegedly collecting Shs 23 million from several people by promising to help them secure government jobs.
Asaph Kamugisha appeared before the Ndeija Magistrate’s Court in Rwampara District on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence. He was remanded until November 3, 2026.
The prosecution alleges that on February 23, 2026, in Kanoni Town, Rwampara District, Kamugisha obtained Shs 23 million from several people by falsely claiming that he could help them secure employment with Rwampara District Local Government.
His arrest followed complaints raised by members of the public during the national “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, spearheaded by the Minister of State for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, in Rwampara District.
The complaints prompted investigations by the Inspectorate of Government, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The investigations culminated in Kamugisha’s arraignment before court.
Obtaining money by false pretence is a criminal offence under Ugandan law. The allegations against Kamugisha remain subject to determination by the court.
