Police have confirmed the death of a suspected vandal following an attempted act of electricity infrastructure sabotage in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty.
The incident, believed to have occurred during the nights of November 18 and 19, 2025, involved a group of unknown individuals who attempted to vandalise a high-voltage transmission tower connected to the Namawojolo power sub-station.
During the attempt, one of the vandals became trapped in the tower’s angle bars and died instantly. His body, dressed in a blue overall, was discovered hanging on the structure. Authorities also reported damage to another tower located approximately half a kilometre away.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer Kampala Metropolitan Police, said a case was registered at the Mukono Police Division.
He noted that a joint team of Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) officials and police officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from residents.
He said investigators are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased was part of a group cutting sections of the high-voltage tower (pyron) when he became fatally trapped during the attempted collapse of the structure.
Owoyesigyire said efforts are currently underway to safely retrieve the body for post-mortem examination and further identification. Police say investigations will continue with the aim of establishing the motive and bringing all involved individuals to justice.
