Police in the Rwizi cattle corridor have arrested a man suspected of slaughtering and stealing livestock, thanks to a swift response and the sharp instincts of a police sniffer dog.

According to authorities, the arrest occurred on 17 November 2025 in Akabaare Cell, Sanga Town Council, Kiruhura District, as part of ongoing operations targeting rising animal theft in the region.
Earlier that morning, at about 6:00 a.m., farmer Nayeebare Aggrey discovered blood in his kraal and realized his goats and sheep had been brutally slaughtered.
Three sheep were missing. Shocked, he rushed to Sanga Police Station to report the theft.
A team from the K9 unit and investigators was immediately deployed to the scene.
After assessing the kraal, officers introduced the police dog to the scent, and it quickly picked up a trail. The dog led officers approximately 70 metres from the kraal, straight to the home of Nuwamanya Joshua, a resident of the same village.

Police say the suspect was found at home alongside pangas believed to have been used in the slaughter. He was arrested on the spot and is currently detained at Sanga Police Station as investigations continue.
Authorities praised the operation as another successful step in the wider effort to curb rampant livestock theft in the Rwizi corridor.
