WAKISO, MUKONO : A sweeping security operation across Wakiso and Mukono districts has led to the arrest of 147 suspects in a coordinated crackdown targeting rising cases of robbery, mugging, burglary, and drug-related crime.
The joint operation, carried out on February 17, 2026, according to the deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, involved officers from Kampala Metropolitan Police East and Kampala Metropolitan Police South, focusing on identified crime hotspots.
Armed Suspects Arrested in Wakiso
At Kirinya Police Station in Bweyogerere Division under Kira Division Police, three suspects, Sabastiano Waiswa, Moses Innocent Omara, and Jimmy Abila, were arrested for allegedly waylaying and assaulting members of the public.
The trio was reportedly armed with a panga, sticks, a brick, and a concrete paver at the time of their arrest.
Drug Suspects Rounded Up in Mukono
In Kyampisi Sub-county, officers from Nagalama Police Division apprehended 13 suspects in Kabembe Suburb for allegedly possessing suspected narcotic substances.
Meanwhile, a large-scale sweep by Kabalagala Police Division under KMP South resulted in the arrest of 125 suspects from Kansanga, Nsambya, Kabalagala, and Kibuli.
The suspects are believed to have been involved in various criminal activities, including illegal possession of narcotics.
Joint Security Operation in Wantoni
In Wantoni, Mukono Central Division, police working alongside the Uganda People’s Defence Force arrested six additional suspects. Authorities also recovered two numberless motorcycles suspected to have been used in the commission of crimes.
Owiyesigyire said all 147 suspects remain in custody pending prosecution.
He said similar disruptive operations will continue in crime-prone areas to restore order and enhance community safety.
Owoyesigyire noted that the intensified operations are part of a broader strategy to curb escalating criminal activity across the metropolitan region.
