Police in Kabalagala, in coordination with other security agencies, are actively investigating a case of robbery and assault that took place on July 17, 2025 during the NRM parliamentary primary election in Nsambya.
A disturbing video of the incident, widely circulated on social media, shows a gang of thugs violently mugging members of the public in broad daylight.
The footage, which triggered public outrage, was promptly reviewed by investigators at Kabalagala Police Station, leading to the identification of several suspects involved in the violent robbery.
Police say they responded swiftly to the scene on July 17, arresting 8 suspects immediately after the incident.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, noted that following further analysis of CCTV footage and intelligence gathered during interrogations, security forces launched another targeted operation on Sunday, July 20, resulting in the arrest of 10 additional suspects. They are Phillip Were, Sharif Lubwama, Patrick Wasike Brian Ngobi, Shafiq Mugisha, Rashid Sebisaba, Emmanuel Ochwo, Adbul Rakim Kakooza, Brian Ominga and Meddy Katongole aka Baronal.
This brings the total number of suspects in custody to 18, whom he says have since been charged with simple robbery and will be produced in court.
Owoyesigyire, noted that many of the suspects confessed during interrogation to being part of coordinated criminal groups.
“We are still actively hunting for the remaining perpetrators and won’t rest until everyone involved is brought to justice,” he noted.
Police have assured the public that they are tightening security around political activities to prevent further violence and restore confidence in the electoral process.
