Joint intelligence-led security operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan area resulted in the arrest of 315 suspects as authorities intensify efforts to combat crime and dismantle criminal networks in the capital and surrounding districts.
The coordinated overnight operations were carried out on July 1, 2026 by the Uganda Police Force in collaboration with other security agencies.

The raids targeted intelligence-identified crime hotspots in Katwe, Nateete, Kajjansi, Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, Katooke, Nabweru, Kyebando and Yesu Amala. Officers from CPS Kampala, Kajjansi, Kabalagala, Nateete and Nansana police divisions participated in the operations, which ran from 9:00 p.m. until 4:00am.
Police said 280 suspects were arrested during the Kampala Metropolitan operation, while an additional 35 suspects were apprehended during a separate intelligence-led operation by officers from Nansana Police Division, bringing the total number of arrests to 315.

All suspects are currently undergoing screening, with those found to have committed criminal offences expected to be charged in court.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the operations were guided by intelligence gathered on areas believed to be harbouring criminal activity.

“These intelligence-led operations are aimed at preventing crime, disrupting criminal networks and improving the safety and security of residents across the Kampala Metropolitan area.

All suspects are being screened, and those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” she said.
Security teams also recovered several exhibits during the operations, including suspected narcotic drugs, shisha pots, dangerous weapons and television sets believed to be linked to criminal activity. The recovered items have been taken in as evidence and will undergo further investigation.
The police said it will continue conducting intelligence-led operations across the Kampala Metropolitan area as part of broader efforts to deter crime, strengthen public safety and maintain law and order.
