Moyo/Adjumani– The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the temporary suspension of Laropi Ferry operations, which connect Moyo and Adjumani Districts across the River Nile.
The suspension, effective today, has been prompted by emergency safety concerns requiring immediate attention at the ferry’s landing sites.
According to the Ministry, urgent remedial works are needed to ensure the safety and security of docking operations.
The necessary equipment is currently en route to the site, with repair works scheduled to begin early tomorrow morning. Authorities anticipate that ferry services will resume by tomorrow afternoon, pending completion of the works.
In the meantime, passengers and travelers are advised to use the Obongi–Sinyanya Ferry route as an alternative.
“We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to restore safe operations,” read the official statement issued by the Ministry.
The Laropi Ferry is a vital transportation link for communities in northern Uganda, facilitating the movement of people and goods between the two districts.
