The Imara Girls Festival 2024 held at Kati Kati grounds in Lugogo today 12th October, has registered a good turn up, majority of the attendees were adolescent girls and young women.

The Imara Girls Festival is an integrated campaign that celebrates the role and contribution of women and girls in advancing development at the national, regional and global levels.

The festival has brought together key actors in different sectors to celebrate, recognize, inspire and exhibition of works of women and girls that serve as a testament of the role of women in breaking boundaries, and moving beyond the stereotypes.

The 2024 Imara Girls Festival also aimed to support the establishment of the Imara Women’s Center, an initiative to anchor interventions on the advancement of women’s rights over the next 25 years.

‘’At FOWODE, it’s our business to nurture and build girls’ and young women’s leadership’’ said Patricia Munabi, the executive director of Forum for women in democracy in her remarks.

The Founder of Miss Uganda and CEO Miss Uganda foundation, Brenda Nanyonjo used the platform to urge attendees to consider investing in themselves, and also to dedicate time to personal growth and development.

“As a girl, before others invest in you, invest in yourself first. Invest time in your personal growth and development” Nanyonjo said, adding that “Without discipline, you cannot achieve much because you cannot attract anyone to invest in you”.

Attendees received supper entertainment performance from Musicians like, Nina Roze, Lilian Mbabazi, Jackie Chandiru, Karole Kasita, Kataleya and Kandle among others.

About the Imara Women’s Centre.

The Imara Women’s Center (IWC) is a Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) initiative.

FOWODE acquired 2.3 acres of land to establish this facility in Kasangata, Wakiso District .

The center will be a space for women’s independent organizing and a practical base from which to advance the Struggle for gender equality.

The Ugshs 28billion center will also be a safe and empowering space, for Women’s safety, dignity, voice, and agency, to end violence against women.
