KAMPALA: Uganda will mark its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, on 8 October 2025, with a program that brings together business, cultural, and diplomatic engagements. The event will showcase Uganda’s economic potential, cultural richness, and commitment to strengthening relations with Japan and the international community.

Expo 2025, which opened in April and will conclude on 13 October 2025, is being held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Uganda’s pavilion, located in Commons A, has been welcoming visitors since the start of the Expo. It highlights the country’s transformation agenda, with a focus on industrialization, exports, and investment, while also offering insights into Uganda’s cultural diversity and tourism potential.

The Ugandan delegation will be led by the Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, and will include senior government officials, diplomats, and private sector representatives. Uganda’s participation is being coordinated by the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotion Authority (UFZEPA) in collaboration with the Embassy of Uganda in Japan.

As part of the program, the delegation will meet with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 7 October 2025, with discussions expected to advance trade and investment cooperation and strengthen business-to-business linkages.

The National Day celebrations on 8 October 2025 will take place at the National Day Hall, beginning with an address by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Uganda, followed by remarks from Japanese officials. The ceremony will feature cultural performances, offering visitors a vibrant experience of Uganda’s traditions and creativity. This will be followed by an official tour of the Japan and Uganda pavilions, emphasizing the spirit of partnership and exchange at Expo 2025. The day will conclude with a dinner at the Expo Guest House, providing a platform for networking and business engagement between Ugandan and Japanese stakeholders.

Following the Expo celebrations, the Prime Minister of Uganda is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan in Tokyo on 9 October 2025. This high-level engagement is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in trade, investment, and development.

Uganda’s participation in Expo 2025 is guided by the sub-theme “Empowering Lives,” which reflects the country’s long-term vision of achieving inclusive and sustainable prosperity through trade, innovation, and industrial growth, as outlined in Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV).

According to Mr. Hez Kimoomi Alinda, Executive Director of UFZEPA, Expo 2025 Osaka provides a timely platform for Uganda to engage with the global community.

“Through National Day, Uganda will highlight its development priorities, share its cultural heritage, and demonstrate its readiness to work with partners to achieve mutual growth and prosperity,” he said.

Uganda’s National Day at Expo 2025 will serve as both a celebration of national identity and a strategic engagement—reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a competitive, export-led economy and a reliable partner in international trade and cooperation.
