Lira, Uganda — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) today, held a press conference at Gracious Hotel in Lira to share news update about President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign in the Lango region. Officials said the campaign has been well received, with many people showing strong support and the events running smoothly.

Maj. Retired Awich Pollar, the Director of Foreign Affairs at the NRM Secretariat, explained that the campaign started in Lango, which has 10 districts including Lira city. The President was warmly welcomed by local elders who gave him a shield and a stool. These gifts showed their support and blessing for his election campaign.

“This region was proud to start the President’s campaign in the North and gave him a shield for the fight to win votes,” Rtd Maj. Awich said.

He also said the campaign focuses on what the NRM plans to do in Lango, like improving roads and building better infrastructure. These promises come from the NRM manifesto and are meant to help the people in the region.

Maj. Retired Awich Pollar emphasized that the campaign has been peaceful and well-organized, with no incidents of conflict or embarrassment. He noted that even when other political parties attended the events wearing their own colors, it was clear that their presence was simply a show of support for President Museveni rather than opposition to him or the NRM. This spirit of harmony contributed to the smooth running of the campaign throughout the region.

Regarding upcoming events, Maj. Awich explained that the rally originally scheduled to take place in both Lira city, Lira district and kole on the same day was postponed.

He clarified that Lira city is part of Lira district, much like how Kampala city lies within Wakiso district. This arrangement was intended to conveniently hold one combined rally for both areas.

Looking ahead, Maj. Awich shared that he, along with Mr. Jacob Ocen, NRM publicity secretary Lira City, are heading to Oyam district this evening  to mobilize support via local radio stations. The aim is to drum up enthusiasm and ensure a massive turnout for both  “Tommorow’s rally and exit rally .” The  exit rally is particularly important as it symbolizes the successful handover of the campaign momentum from Lango to West Nile. Maj. Awich described it as passing a baton in a race—a crucial moment that will set the tone for the next phase of the campaign.

Hon. Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the Director of Information and Publicity, added that the campaign has been safe. There were no traffic problems or security issues while the President traveled through the region.

“Our campaign has respected the law and safety rules. The President has been able to move around without any problems,” he said.
