At least 29 supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party have been today (October 6, 2025) following a disruptive incident along the Mityana highway where they allegedly blocked traffic and clashed with police.

The unrest erupted at Bujjuko Trading Centre when crowds gathered in anticipation of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who was scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Mityana District.
Although the candidate was initially expected to use the Mityana highway, he diverted and took the Hoima Road instead. A joint security team had been deployed to manage traffic and ensure safe passage.
Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango in a statement noted that some NUP supporters assembled along the Mityana route, engaging in drumming, whistling, and barricading the road, causing a significant disruption to traffic and public order.
Police say several warnings were issued, but the group refused to disperse, prompting security forces to intervene.
Onyango said 29 individuals were taken into custody at Wakiso Police Division and are expected to face charges related to unlawful assembly and obstruction.

“We urge all presidential candidates and their supporters to adhere to traffic regulations, follow approved campaign routes, and respect the rights of other road users,” Onyango said.
