Amuru District – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has officially launched his campaign in the Acholi sub-region with a series of pledges aimed at improving livelihoods, boosting industrialization, and strengthening social services.

Speaking at his first campaign rally held at Pabo Primary School playgrounds in Amuru District, General Museveni announced a special plan to compensate households in war-affected areas of Acholi, Lango, and Teso sub-regions with five cows each.

He explained that the initiative comes in response to requests from Acholi leaders, who highlighted the severe impact of past insurgencies, including the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), the Lakwena rebellion, and Karamojong cattle raids.

“The cattle compensation plan will be implemented in the next term to support wealth creation and rebuild livelihoods among affected communities,” said General Museveni.

Industrial Development and Reviving Atiak Sugar Factory

Museveni reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to industrialization in the north, promising to revive the Atiak Sugar Factory to reach its full production capacity. This effort, he said, aligns with the broader NRM strategy to transform the region economically.

He noted that the government has already laid a strong foundation for industrial growth in the Acholi sub-region through investments in infrastructure, electricity, roads, and ensuring peace and security.

“We must protect the progress we have made. Continued support for the NRM will help us achieve even more,” Museveni urged supporters.

Tackling Drug Theft in Public Health Facilities

In a move to improve healthcare delivery, Museveni revealed plans to recruit over 1,400 health inspectors for Health Centre IIIs to tackle the persistent issue of drug theft in government health facilities.

He acknowledged the government’s achievements in supplying drugs and constructing health centers but pointed out that theft remains a major setback. He proposed that the new health inspectors, working alongside religious leaders, will monitor the usage of medical supplies.

Warning to Public School Administrators on Fees

General Museveni also issued a stern warning to public school administrators who continue to charge unauthorized fees, urging them to fully implement the Universal Primary and Secondary Education programs as intended by the NRM government.

He reiterated that education is meant to be free and accessible for all, and that any illegal charges undermine the government’s commitment to improving literacy and access to education.

Emphasis on Prioritization for Development

Calling for strategic development planning, Museveni advised the people of Amuru and the broader region to embrace prioritization in the implementation of projects.

“Randomly scattering projects across the region without focus will only stretch government resources and yield minimal impact,” he cautioned. He pointed to the NRM’s prioritization of peace and security as an example that laid the groundwork for sustained development and wealth creation.

Today, President Museveni will continue to rally the people of Acholi to re-elect him in 2026. He is expected to address his second rally in the Acholi sub-region this morning in Nwoya District and later proceed to Omoro District.
