Njeru traffic police are investigating a serious road accident that left seven people injured on December 5, 2025, afternoon along the Kampala–Jinja highway in Buikwe District.
The crash occurred at around 2:30 pm in Bulumagi village and involved a Fuso truck loaded with cartons of spirits and a passenger taxi.
According to police, the Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBS 644E, was travelling from Jinja toward Kampala when its unidentified driver attempted a reckless overtaking maneuver.
Ssezibwa Region police spokesperson, Hellen Butoto in statement noted that realizing too late that an oncoming vehicle was approaching, the driver swerved abruptly to avoid a head-on collision and crashed into a Fuso truck, registration UBG 263K, driven by 55-year-old Ntabazi Joseph of Jinja City.
Both vehicles overturned on impact.
Those injured include taxi passenger Bossa Andrew of Busia; 15-year-old Namulondo Tracy of Buyende District; Kasadha Faziri, 30, of Mityana; Baseke Jalia, 25, of Mayuge; and Bakesigamukama, 31, of Bugiri. The Fuso driver, Ntabazi Joseph, and his turn man, 20-year-old Ntabazi Joram, were also injured.
She said all victims were rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment while the vehicles have since been towed to Njeru Police Station for inspection as investigations continue.
Butoto said inquiries are still ongoing, as she urged motorists to exercise caution on the busy highway to prevent further tragedies.
