NAKASEKE District: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged to fast-track land compensation for absentee landlords, address the problem of counterfeit livestock drugs on the market, resolve veterans’ welfare issues, and provide new road construction equipment for Nakaseke District.
Addressing an NRM presidential campaign rally at Butalangu in Nakaseke District, Museveni urged cattle farmers in Nakaseke and across the cattle corridor to embrace modern, efficient dairy farming and better land utilisation practices to boost productivity and eliminate nomadic pastoralism.
“You do not need vast land to succeed in dairy farming. With proper breeds and management, even small acreage can generate high milk yields and good income,” Museveni said.
The NRM flag bearer noted that the average landholding in Nakaseke District is large enough to support high-value dairy cattle that require less land but produce more milk.
He cited successful farmers such as Joseph Ijara from Serere District and Mzee Nayakana from Kabarole District as examples of how modern dairy farming can thrive on limited land.
“We have people producing a lot of milk on small pieces of land. These are real examples that can be copied here in Nakaseke,” he added.
On land management and environmental conservation, Museveni proposed granting leasehold tenure of at least 49 years to occupants of bare forest land reserves in Nakaseke District, on condition that they actively plant trees and support reforestation efforts. This followed appeals by district leaders for freehold titles for the occupants, which Museveni advised against.
“Forest land must be protected. Leasehold allows people to use the land productively while ensuring that reforestation is enforced,” he explained. The President reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to empowering small-scale landowners through training, advisory services, and support for wealth creation initiatives.
“Our role as government is to teach, advise, and support Ugandans so that every household can create wealth,” Museveni emphasized.
Museveni also outlined key road infrastructure projects planned for Nakaseke District to improve mobility of goods and services. These include the extension of the Kampala–Luwero–Butalangu tarmac road to Ngoma and Masindi, the Butalangu–Kapeeka–Nakwaya–Bukomero road, and the near-complete reconstruction of the Matuga–Ssemuto–Kapeeka road. These projects are intended to complement existing highways such as the Kampala–Luwero–Gulu and Kampala–Busunju–Hoima–Buliisa roads that traverse the cattle corridor.
Calling on residents to continue supporting the NRM, Museveni highlighted peace and stability as the foundation of the district’s development achievements.
“Without peace, there can be no development. The stability we restored is what has made progress in education, health, electricity, and water possible,” he said.
He further underscored the NRM government’s achievements in expanding access to education, healthcare, electricity, and clean water in Nakaseke District, describing them as indicators of broad-based success.
Museveni also encouraged youths to acquire practical skills as a pathway to employment, alongside opportunities in commercial agriculture and manufacturing.
“Skills training creates jobs. Agriculture, industry, and skills development must move together,” he noted.
The First Lady, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, rallied residents to safeguard the gains achieved under the NRM government by re-electing Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming general elections.
“Protect the peace, unity, and development you have enjoyed by voting for continuity,” she urged.
Former Minister of Finance and NRM elder in Nakaseke District, Hajjat Saida Bbumba, challenged voters to reflect on the transformation of their livelihoods under the NRM administration.
“The change you see today did not come by chance. Let us vote for continuity and complete the journey of socioeconomic transformation,” Bbumba said.
