The Uganda Police Force has intensified its search for activist Manzi Kabundami, issuing wanted posters across several locations as part of ongoing investigations into alleged violations of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.

According to a police statement, Kabundami is wanted for questioning in connection with allegations of promoting homosexuality, an offence cited under Section 14(c) of the Anti-Homosexuality Act. Authorities say the investigation centers on claims that he has been involved in activities considered to be aiding or promoting access to healthcare services for members of the gay community.

Speaking to our reporter, D/ASP Mathias Walusimbi stated that Kabundami has previously been cautioned over his alleged involvement in defending and supporting healthcare access initiatives linked to individuals identifying as gay arguing that such actions fall within conduct prohibited by the law.

“This is a foreign and unacceptable practice under our laws,” Walusimbi said. “We urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of Manzi Kabundami to report to the nearest police station to aid in his arrest and prosecution.”

As part of the operation, the Uganda Police announced a reward of UGX 3 million for information leading to Kabundami’s arrest. Wanted posters bearing his name have been displayed in various public spaces as investigations continue.

The development has sparked renewed public debate around the implementation of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, particularly concerning its interpretation and enforcement. Legal experts and civil society observers note that cases involving advocacy, healthcare access, and human rights often raise complex legal and ethical questions that require careful handling by authorities.

Police have emphasized that the search for Kabundami is part of a lawful process and that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. They have encouraged the public to cooperate with law enforcement while allowing due process to take its course.

As of publication, Kabundami’s whereabouts remain unknown, and no official response from him or his family had been issued. Police say investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated as appropriate.
