Police in Sembabule District are investigating a violent political clash that left four people seriously injured and led to the arrest of 12 suspects, following an attack on a rival political camp in Matete Sub-county.
According to the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, the incident occurred on December 28, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m. in Kanoni Village, Nakagongo Parish. A group of young men reportedly stormed a rival political gathering, triggering chaos and violence.
Four victims, Kwesiga Livingston, Kiyimba Ronald, Seguya Aloysius, and Tumuhimbtse Jackson — sustained injuries during the attack and were rushed to Sembabule Health Centre IV for treatment. Police immediately opened two counter cases of assault and launched investigations. Two suspects were first arrested, interviewed, and their statements recorded. The case files were later forwarded to the Regional State Attorney for legal guidance.
Following the legal review, Asimwe Deo and Ayijuka Edger were formally charged and produced before the Sembabule Chief Magistrate’s Court, where they were remanded until January 22, 2026. Other suspects initially remained at large.
Further intelligence-led operations conducted on December 30, 2025, led to the arrest of ten additional suspects. Among them is 46-year-old Kiberu David of Matete West, who police allege was the ringleader who coordinated the attack.
The other suspects include residents from various villages within Matete and neighboring sub-counties, with one of them being a 17-year-old student.
All ten suspects were arraigned before the Sembabule Chief Magistrate’s Court on January 7, 2026, and remanded until January 22, 2026, as investigations continue.
