Hellen Nakimuli, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District and Shadow Minister for Information and National Guidance, died following an unsuccessful operation at Alexandria Medical Center, prompting an outpouring of grief across Uganda’s political divide.
In a condolence messages, the Forum for Democratic Change party leader, Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi honored the deceased’s service and legacy.
Though she belonged to the National Unity Platform, leaders from across the spectrum paid tribute to her dedication, describing her as a unifying figure committed to national progress.
Nakimuli was widely regarded as a passionate advocate for the people of Kalangala, an island district in Lake Victoria.
Representing communities spread across 84 islands, she consistently raised concerns affecting fisherfolk, women, and youth, earning a reputation as a determined voice for marginalized populations.
Her work in Parliament focused on issues of social justice, accountability, and equitable access to services.
In its statement, the Forum for Democratic Change acknowledged that while political parties often differ, Nakimuli’s death underscored a shared commitment to Uganda’s future.
Amuriat described her as a grassroots mobilizer whose courage inspired many young women to pursue leadership roles.
Her passing leaves a significant void in both Parliament and her home district. Constituents across Kalangala, from Bugala to Bubeke and beyond, remembered her as a steadfast defender who championed improvements in schools, health centers, and local livelihoods.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
Nakimuli’s death marks not only the loss of a legislator but also of a prominent advocate whose work resonated far beyond her constituency.
